The 2009 annual blow fish tournament was once again a huge success with 33 boats entering. That was down eight boats from the 2008 tournament but the competition was just as strong. Cape Point Marina in Harkers Island, NC hosted the tournament this year. The tournament had been previously hosted by Charlie Billings of Marshallberg, NC.

Bo Anderson of Cape Point Marina gave the “lines in the water” at 9:00am and the competition was on. The preferred bait by most anglers was fresh shrimp. I usually freeze a few extra pounds in the fall each year for the annual March blow fishing.

The weather was windy and chilly but did not deter any of the anglers from trying to find their elusive quarry. Bragging rights and $247.00 went to the first place winner Craig Collins with a 1.40 lb blow fish. Second place went to Steve Clingan with a weight of 0.9 lb. There was a five way tie for third with fish weighing in at 0.08 lbs. The tournament culminated with a dinner of steamed crabs, fried fish and some other local island favorites.
